Film Lesson-"The Right Stuff"

Over the years the United States and Russia been going at it. From nuclear bombs to forming alliances. Even sending someone to the moon. This was known as the "space race". In the movie "The Right Suff", the Russians unfortunatley beat us with getting a satellite up into space, and the first man. We got the first monkey into space. We were like a joke to all nations. But, we also were the first to get a man to orbit the Earth and more than once. Since we were only th efirst to get a monkey into space the Russians had technically won the space race. The scene I would always remember is the monkey going up to space. It was hilarious but, a key moment in history.

The Cuban Missile Crisis

During the 1960's the world came very close to having a nuclear war. Actually it was the closet. But we were lucky to avoid it thanks to two extraordinary brave men. John F. Kennedy and Premier Nikita Khrushchev. Around 1962 America was leading in the arms race against Russia drastically. Because their missiles only were strong enough to hit the U.S but, our missiles were able to take out the whole Soviet Union. So around April of that year Khrushchev of the Soviet Union got an idea to put missiles on Cuba, which would've of helped Fidel Castro defend himself from the U.S's potential attack. So in the summer of 1962 the Soviet Union builttheir missiles on Cuba.
Everything went wrong on October fifteenth when some photographs revealed the missiles being built on Cuba. The U.S. then quickly found out about the Soviets plans. President Kennedy demanded that the Soviets remove their missiles from Cuba. The first major step he took was he issued a naval quarantine to stop the Soviet missiles from entering Cuba. Next we went into "safe mode". There were reconnaissance missions almost every two hours. These reconnaisance missions were just to make sure that no missiles were being planned to be fired. On October 28th it was basically over, the Soviet Union agreed to take their missles out of Cuba and the U.S agreed not to attack Cuba.

NATO and The Warsaw Pact

This picture is an anti-Nato ad. Which reads "Hello, NATO!"

NATO was an alliance of different militaries against communism. It stood for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. During the Cold War era there were only twelve different countries and or nations. The U.S, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Denmark, Iceland, Italy Norway Portugal, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg. The only real reason for the formation of NATO was DEFENSE. So that if one of them were attacked all of the other countries in NATO would come to their aide as one. Around this time we were having problems with Russia. So as a answer or threat to NATO they created their own "NATO" called the Warsaw Pact. But, they were still out number with just 8 nations. The Soviet Union, Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Romania.

Film Lesson: "Schindler's List"

Schindler's List was a very drastic and inspiring film. It was one to remember. It showed many "horror scenes that will stay in my mind forever. I guess that's why the producer put those select scenes in there to show how could hearted the Nazis were. Such as the chilling scene of the gassed bodies being burned. One that may stay forever was the girl in the red dress. Although I know it wasn't suppose to be a joke but, the scene with the kids hiding literally for there lives. Especially the little kid that had to hide in the toilet whole covered in waste. That is so messed up, innocent kids dieing just to try to kill off a race. Imagine someone taking your kid away. Not on vacation or to the candy shop but to be killed. Now that's a stab in the heart. Who died and made Hitler king any way?

US Atomic Bombing of Japan in 1945

Of course I agree. I think the article is %110 correct. They even back it up with a list of top events and headlines throughout the world's history. I tried thinking of things that might have been bigger but, just couldn't up with nothing because this was the most....words cant describe. It played a huge role in the world by changing the way people look at war. It also killed the most people in total of all wars. It even killed people years after the bombing because of the radition and even the "lucky" babies that weren't killed came out deformed. The U.S is avery strong but, selfish and or mean country. Its like they didn't even care that it was going to kill that much. But, then again it ended the war in an instant and placed us at the top with the power. Because now in the future other countries are scared of us. If i could change one thing tit would be 44 and 50. Jackie Robinson and I Have a Dream Speech (50) because I feel the speech affected more people.

Germany at War - WW II

Propaganda really means spreading any type of information such as rumors or ideas. It m ay also be information that is spread to hurt or help a group, organization, or person. Its something like an advertisement because it helps sread ideaas that may influence people. It can be represent by cartoons, posters, etc.
The poster is very interesting. It really stands up to the saying "a picture says a thousand words". I notice many things in the poster. A "iron" fist, graveyard, cross, cradle, bright colors, and something that looks like a industrial building. It also has German writing on that says means in English "Europe's Victory is Your Prosperity". It resembled Germany's "victory" over Britian. Because of the graveyard and the fist puching to the east.

The Treaty of Versailles (ended WW I)

After World War II Germany was affected deeply in many different ways. They lost many pieces of land and country side. Germany was also in dept with alot of people. They had alot of dues that needed to be payed back. They were so deep in dept that they had to go into a huge depression. The Treaty of Versailles were then given to Germany. In the post war Germany had no leader jus a treaty, then a man named Hitler cam about. Germans didn't really care that he was a mean dictator at first they just needed a leader and someone to guide them through the times. Historians say that "the Treaty of Versailles led to the rise of Hitler" I think they came to that theory because Hitler didn't really care for the treaty, he just wanted the WORLD.
